Dave needed to talk to someone so he took out his thing, always a good conversation starter. Girls wouldn’t talk to him unless he took out his thing. Sometimes he asked them their names but they never asked him his and he didn’t know if he should tell them. Or just wait for them to ask…

And doesn’t Henry have a go at you about it down by the stadium, a wet night and at your feet, the well-drained hobo gasping his last. Abruptly Henry jumps up and scans the graveyard of rain-soaked cars, and then with a wicked grin he wipes his mouth, goes over to a wreck and punches out a side-view mirror. Just like that. Comes back and holds the mirrored shard right up to your face, blood on your chin and Henry yelling, ‘Redbeard, Redbeard. Haha!’ …
